One of the best pieces of advice I received from Midge Martin was to start with the best linebred bitch I could as a foundation for my kennel. Daisy was all that and more. I remember in 2001 watching this litter of seven little girls scamper around as I sat on Midge’s kitchen floor and one kept coming back and saying “pick me”. I felt she was one of the best in the litter and I wondered if there was any way Midge would let me have her. I was so thrilled to take her home and I have adored this girl since the moment I first saw her. Daisy has provided the foundation for all our breeding and I am thrilled with the pups I have from her. She had a very strong show career, completing her US Championship in very few shows. It was such a thrill for me to show her there taking a 5-point major over 13 other bitches and what followed was a short but very successful show career in the US handled by Bryan Martin and Midge. In Canada she received major group wins and manyBest Puppy in Groups and had no difficulty achieving her Canadian Championship. In 2005, we bred Daisy and Rootie which produced a litter of 6 pups, including Casey (Ch. Harbour Deep Victory at Sea SW). She was bred again in 2007 to Ch. Treis Pinheiros Black Bear SW (Zorro) and gave us a terrific litter of 4 boys and 4 girls that has produced five Canadian Champions. She remains a dear dog that we all adore and cherish and is our “bed dog” keeping my feet warm at night.

In the fall of 2006, I had the opportunity to acquire a female pup sired by the No.1 Standard Wirehair Dachshund in Canada in 2006 Treis Pinheiros Black Bear SW (Zorro) out of Laponderosa’s Chica Bom owned by Richard and Susan Boyle in Victoria, BC. I had long admired many of the dogs out of the Treis Pinheiros Kennel of Carlos Pedroso in Brazil and particularly liked Fanny’s dad Zorro, a very handsome dog from that kennel now owned by Janet and Mike Rein in Regina, Saskatchewan. Zorro is a double Starhaven Andrew grandson, which brings close links to all the Solo bloodlines in my dogs. I felt that Fanny would add some valuable characteristics from the other side of the ledger and she came to live with us in October of 2006. In a few days she was running the place, and had everyone totally in love with her. She has boundless energy and a “take no prisoners” attitude which she has carried right into the show ring and everywhere else she goes. Fanny will be bred to Casey in the spring of 2009 and we are looking forward with anticipation to what these two great dogs will produce.

Grace was my pick of the 2007 litter sired by Ch. Treis Pinheiros Black Bear SW (Zorro). Grace has her mother Daisy’s terrific type and her dad’s flash. She caught my eye at about 3 weeks of age and I felt she was the keeper from that point on – a decision I never regretted! She has matured into a very correct, typey, elegant bitch with tremendous presence in the show ring. Grace started her show career off with a bang, taking a Group 1st and 3rd as well as BPIG in her first two outings and was finished in no time. She is going over to the mainland to be specialed during the spring and summer of 2009 with our wonderful handler Erin LeBlanc.

Some puppies just work their way into your hearts and are very hard to part with. We had not intended to keep two girls from the Daisy x Zorro 2007 litter, but Bridget was such a doll and Marc was totally smitten with her. So she has stayed and we adore her. She has the most beautiful face and expression you could hope for, wonderful front and moves beautifully. She spent the summer of 2008 with Erin LeBlanc and did well in a very competitive hound field. In 2009 she will return to her first love – the agility ring, training for competition in the summer.
