About Us My interest in purebred dogs began early on as a young child, aided and abetted by my father who had raised and trialed a number of wonderful Labrador Retrievers. While I adored every one of our big black dogs, I became fascinated with other breeds thanks to a book on dogs which belonged to my Dad. At the age of five, I began petitioning for a Bedlington Terrier and my efforts were rewarded on my sixth birthday when “Tinkerbell” came into my life. Some years later, I discovered that a local breeder of Irish Setters had a young dog for sale and again my father indulged in me and Chanderran’s Duggan Dew aka “Duggie” was mine. I adored both of these dogs and had very modest success with Duggie in both obedience and in the show ring. My husband Marc had dogs enter his life in a far more charming way – at eight years of age he became the proud owner of Cocker Spaniel puppy after writing the winning poem for a contest on “Junior Frolics” – a TV show sponsored by Gimbel’s Department Store in New York. His tolerant Mother welcomed this little creature in, despite the fact that they lived in a small apartment on the fifth floor of a walk-up block in Queens, NY. Later, Beagles became the breed of choice and his family had a succession of dogs – all named Kippi – who shared their modest home despite allergies and other limiting factors. When Marc and I first got together, I did warn him that having a dog was not optional..it was an absolute necessity. Now, many years later, he still asks me from time to time why we have to have so many. That’s easy, I reply. “Dachshunds are like peanuts, you can never stop with just one.” |
